Sleep Apnea and Heart Disease

The connection between sleep apnea and heart disease is evolving very rapidly.

Here are a few points to consider:

  • People who on average slept over seven hours a night were at a reduced risk of developing new coronary artery calcifications over five years.
  • At least 50 percent of patients with heart failure suffer from sleep apnea
  • There is good evidence showing a cause and effect relationship betwen hypertension and sleep apnea.
  • A number of studies have shown treating sleep apnea improves heart failure, high blood pressure and diabetes.
